Vail’s Lindsey Vonn Dominated the Cortina World Cup

Vail’s own Lindsey Vonn won her 39th career world cup on Sunday. At Cortina d’Empezzo, which lies in the Dolomites of the Italian Alps, Vonn was .05 seconds faster than the German Maria Riesch. With such a dominating performance, one must look at her origin. Vail is loaded with ski rental shops and tons of good restaurants, shops and hotels. Luxury of Living in the Vail Valley

People from all over the world travel to the Vail Valley for vacation. It’s somewhat unique that there are two world class ski resorts, Vail and Beaver Creek, within 10 miles of each other. And I’m lucky enough to live in the area. With a season pass in hand, I have unlimited access, free of charge, to both mountains. It’s almost like living in a bubble. The local economy relies on visitors. Vail ski shops, Vail ski rentals, restaurants, etc do most of their business with out of town visitors. Without the mountains, the area would be completely different. Coming from NYC, it’s such a welcome change of pace and lifestyle.

Flying in the Vail Valley

When visiting the Vail Valley, you basically have two choices in terms of airports. One, you can use Denver, which is around a 2 hr drive. The other option is the Eagle/Vail airport, which is about 30 minutes from Vail. The Denver airport typically has much cheaper fares. It also gives you a time buffer to line up Vail ski rentals, lodging or anything else. On the downside, if the weather is inclement, the drive can be very slow going. Personally, I like to travel from the Eagle/Vail airport. It has free parking and its easily accessible from anywhere in the Valley. They also have direct flights to NYC, which is my most likely destination. While it can be more expensive then Denver, you save on parking and also on transportation to your destination. Fly into Eagle, get your Vail ski rentals delivered, and make your visit that much more enjoyable.

Rossignol Customer Service

I do not own skis. I’ve been using Vail ski rentals for the entire winter and will likely continue to do so for its duration. But I do own a pair of Rossignol ski boots that I purchased at the beginning of this winter. It’s great owning your own boots. You get a customized fit which making skiing more enjoyable, and you get slight discounts on your Vail ski rentals. With around 25 days of skiing on my new boots, some rivets popped off. I was pretty disappointed, so I sent them to Utah from Vail to have them serviced by Rossignol. In less than a week, I received a new pair of boots from Rossi, free of charge. Great customer service! I couldn’t be happier with it. I will continue to use and recommend Rossi.

Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn, from Vail, is making a strong push moving into the winter Olympics. She is more or less crushing the competition in downhill ski events leading up the Vancouver. Although I didn’t grow up in Vail, it’s exciting for the town. It’s not like they need more press, but it’s always nice to see a hometown person doing well, especially on a national stage. It’s weird to think she grew up here using Vail ski rentals and shopping in Vail ski shops, but for her, it was simply her childhood.

Vail’s European Focus

With the US economy still on somewhat shaky terms, Vail’s marketing team has applied a focus to western European markets. The exchange rate between the euro and the dollar still strongly favors the euro, so Europeans can vacation in the Valley for a fraction of the cost of a US traveler. Their Vail ski rentals, their purchases in Vail ski shops, and their restaurant outings all come at a highly discounted price. Vail gets their revenue, the Europeans get an awesome ski vacation. I guess everyone wins.

Snow Snow Snow

With a relative lack of snow the last couple weeks, the snow report is looking much better. 1 inch last night, 5 inches Tuesday night, and more coming today and through the weekend. Every inch helps. Maybe consider upgrading your Vail ski rentals to a fatter ski more suitable for some powder. Just don’t jinx it! With ski technology changing so quickly, renting provides the opportunity to have a ski specifically for the current conditions. Browse the Vail ski shops, or hire a delivery service. Either way, get on a ski that will optimize your performance.

Importance of Boot Fit

As far as I’m concerned, there is nothing more important when skiing than the fit of your boots. Of course its nice when the Vail ski shops offer nice boots, but really the fit is most crucial. It needs to be tight to ensure proper control of the skis. It is really scary when your ski moves without your foot moving. That means you have limited control and results in a dangerous situation. Ideally, any time you foot moves, the ski should move accordingly. So during your next Vail ski rental, pay most attention to the boot fit as it can make or break your day.
